This is a bowl with a pewter inlay made from my neighbor Grant’s maple that had to be taken down.
It is important for me to source wood locally whenever possible. There are a great number of beautiful species growing in Northwest. Walnut, cedar, cherry, and maple are along the streets when I go for a walk. I love the stories behind trees and how people become attached to the ones that live near their house, almost like family members. When one of these old neighborhood trees has to be taken down it can be sad to see them go, and their owners don’t want to watch them be reduced to just firewood and wood chips. I love working with people to make heirloom pieces from these special trees—to give them a continued place in their lives.
